Congratulations to the Bridgeport Hospital Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) on joining the distinguished 1,000-Day Club. In September 2024, the unit went 1,000 days without a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).
The honor indicates a sustained commitment to high-quality care and adherence to evidence-based practices such as limiting unnecessary catheter insertions, daily reviews of catheter necessity, proper catheter maintenance and early catheter removal, said Anne Aquila, RN, DNP, director of Wounds and Critical Care.
“Achieving this milestone also suggests a strong culture of safety, teamwork and accountability within the MICU,” she said. “It reflects effective communication, staff education and a commitment to infection control practices.”
