Child First Greater Bridgeport

Overview

Bridgeport Hospital’s Child First Greater Bridgeport Program is a trauma-informed home visiting intervention for pregnant individuals and young children (ages birth through 5 years) and their families living in the Greater Bridgeport area. Child First provides in-home therapy to help parents and caregivers with their children’s behavior, social-emotional well-being, and development along with care coordination to help connect families to needed resources.

Child First provides services to pregnant individuals and young children (ages birth through 5 years) and their families including:

•  Parents and caregivers who feel overwhelmed by their young child’s behavior and emotions including sadness, anger, fighting, risk of being expelled from childcare, or other social emotional concerns.

• Children and their families who have experienced violence or trauma.

•  Families faced with many stresses such as feeling alone or hopeless, fighting in the home, past drug use, homelessness, without enough money for food or rent, or involvement in DCF (the Department of Children & Families).

Child First Teams work as a family’s partner, listening closely to understand their goals and what is important to them, their child, and their family.  The team visits with the caregiver(s) and their child each week in their home or a community setting (ex: a library, a park, the child’s school, etc.). The team can also work with the child’s teacher or childcare provider.

Child First serves families regardless of their immigration status and insurance coverage.

Anyone can refer a family with their permission, or families can refer themselves.

To make a referral, please call 203-384-4555 or learn more at childfirst.org.
