Syed A. Bokhari, MD

Syed A. Jamal Bokhari, MBBS, is a radiology and biomedical imaging specialist who provides ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), angiography, and other types of imaging, with a focus on pediatrics and trauma. He serves as medical director of emergency radiology for Yale Medicine.

Dr. Bokhari served for three years in the military and obtained a post-graduate diploma in computer sciences before deciding to pursue medicine and radiology. “I cannot think of any other specialty that brings together everything that I like and enjoy,” Dr. Bokhari says. He describes his work as “emergency care that involves the application of advanced engineering and computational sciences to detect physiological, anatomical, and pathological processes without harming the patient.” One of the best things about this work, he says, is that the tools he uses as a radiologist have advanced to the point where he often can provide direction immediately, reassuring the patient that everything looks normal, or if a problem is detected, quickly guiding management.

He was instrumental in creating and running the first 24/7 in-house radiology program at Yale and is part of a team that pushed for other innovations, such as the first overnight radiology assistant program. He says it helps to work with a team of specialists who approach each case with “an equally positive and passionate mindset. He tells patients, “You are in the hands of team that truly cares about you and your loved ones.”
