Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and Norma Pfriem Breast Center spearhead health expo

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

TRUMBULL, CT (March 22, 2017) – Over 300 people attended the first major community wellness event at Yale New Haven Health’s Park Avenue Medical Center in Trumbull March 12. Presented by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and Norma Pfriem Breast Center, the free daylong health and wellness expo featured nearly a dozen lectures by health professionals, screenings, exhibits and CPR/AED training.

The expo was also a showcase for the breast center’s David and Eunice Bigelow Integrative Medicine and Support Services program, which has been offered at the medical center since it opened last May. The program includes massage, yoga, meditation, Pilates, music therapy, naturopathy, psychiatry and more.
“The medical world changes almost daily and our goal for the expo was educating the public,” said Fairfield Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz. “The Norma Pfriem Breast Center and Park Avenue Medical Center team were stellar in accommodating the needs of the public, exhibitors and lecturers and those providing screenings and training.”

“Working cooperatively with the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce on the health expo underscored Park Avenue Medical Center’s place as a regional healthcare resource, serving not only Trumbull but the neighboring communities of Fairfield, Easton, Bridgeport’s North End and others,” said Donna Twist, PhD, executive director of Norma Pfriem Breast Center and vice president of the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation. “The center’s Park Avenue location just off Exit 47 on the Merritt Parkway allows for easy access from multiple directions.”

“We were excited to partner with the Fairfield Chamber and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with community organizations in hosting educational events,” said Bridgeport Hospital Vice President of Ambulatory Services Gina Calder. “As a leading healthcare organization, we consider it our role to raise awareness and meet community needs.”

Opened in May 2016, Park Avenue Medical Center is Yale New Haven Health’s largest, most comprehensive outpatient campus. In addition to the breast center’s services, the site includes a Bridgeport Hospital ambulatory surgery center, Smilow Cancer Hospital care center providing medical/surgical oncology and chemotherapy services, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital pediatric specialty center, outpatient laboratory, radiology and rehabilitation services, and several physician offices.

Health expo organizers also thanked Collins Medical Equipment, the event sponsor, for its generous support.
