Bridgeport Hospital is a not-for-profit teaching hospital committed to the highest ideals of medical care for its patients and community and the highest standards of excellence of its medical staff. Continuing Medical Education (CME) is indispensable in enabling Bridgeport Hospital to meet these commitments.
The purpose of CME at Bridgeport Hospital is to provide evidence-based programs focused on improving patient care by enhancing health care professionals’ competence and performance in practice. All CME activities permit physicians to fulfill requirements for maintenance of certification, hospital privileges, and medical or specialty society membership.
CME content covers the body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine and the delivery of health care to the public. Topics, formats, and educational activities are designed to improve proficiency with IOM/ABMS competencies and are guided by data collected from a variety of sources including, quality improvement initiatives, infection control metrics, Patient safety reports, medical staff survey, and national trends.
CME activities are designed to support the professional and educational needs of the medical staff as well as the resident staff of our highly respected graduate medical education programs.
Our activities utilize current technologies and methodologies appropriate for adult learners in a number of formats including but not limited to: case presentation(s), regularly scheduled series, symposia, summaries of performance improvement initiatives and internet point of care CME. Educational formats are determined based upon the needs and preferences of our learners.
By participating in CME activities, physicians and healthcare professionals will gain competence and/or improve performance. Bridgeport Hospital is committed to assessing the impact and effectiveness of its CME programs on learners through qualitative and quantitative measures including one or more of the following: pre activity self-report, post activity self-report, assessment and outcomes measures if applicable.
