Local OB-GYN Honored for Dedication to Women’s Health

FAIRFIELD, CT—Dr. Emily Blair was honored for her many years of service to the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center and Bridgeport Hospital at a gala on October 27 at the Patterson Club in Fairfield. Dr. Blair is an OB-GYN whose round-the-clock dedication to her work has made her beloved of her patients and colleagues. She partners with the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center to help patients with breast cancer, and the evening also honored women who have survived the disease with the presentation of Portraits of Beauty, a slide-show highlighting the beauty of the survivor with photos by Bruno Gaget. Gaget is a well known beauty and fashion photographer whose work has appeared in magazines such as Allure, Vogue, Marie Claire and In Style. Proceeds benefitted the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center.

Dr. Blair is a senior attending physician at Bridgeport Hospital and a partner with OB/GYN of Fairfield County, with offices in Fairfield and Stratford. She attended C.O.M.S. where she received her medical degree in 1986. She began her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Bridgeport Hospital that same year and became chief resident in 1989. She has been with the Hospital ever since. Her activity at the Hospital extends beyond her responsibilities as a physician. She serves on the Hospital Board, the Professional Quality Committee and the Teaching Faculty. Elsewhere, she has been a member of the Women’s Mental Health Task Force of the State Psychiatric Association. She is a fellow of the American College of OB-GYNs and board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Tara Burke, a patient of Dr. Blair’s, spoke about her care at the gala. “Dr. Emily Blair was beyond thorough. What I loved about her was that she didn’t brush things off the way some doctors do. She’ll investigate everything you say. I can’t tell you how many times she said, “Let’s talk about it.” And she is so dedicated. She’d call me at all hours because she’d been thinking more about my blood work or some other test. Her mind was going all the time.”

Burke, who was treated for breast cancer, also praised her multidisciplinary team at the Breast Care Center. “My doctors were more than the sum of their parts. I was cared for by an amazing team. And my doctors really were a team. They talked to each other and agreed to things concerning my treatment. I never had to act as the go-between—they always knew what their colleagues on the team were doing. I know it’s a rare thing to get that type of seamless collaboration. When people ask me who my doctor is, I say, “I don’t have one. I have three!” I enjoy bragging about that and about how knowledgeable and educated they are. I’m lucky to be one of their patients.”

The gala was chaired by Karen Paloian, Kelly Kenler and Julie Jandali, who volunteer with the Breast Care Center. Both Karen Paloian and Kelly Kenler are also members of the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center's President's Council.
